Best Home Remedies for Wrinkles

As we age, we lose collagen, which is what gives our skin its elasticity. This loss of elasticity causes wrinkles. While there are plenty of ways to ‘go under the knife’ and help improve the look of skin, there are some cheaper, easier (and less invasive) ways to do it at home.

Home Treatments for Wrinkles

Tea:

Both green and white teas are loaded with antioxidants. Both green and white teas have been shown to be high in catechins and epicatechins which can help slow the breakdown of collagen in the face. So have a cup, or three, each day!

Masks:

Masks have always been a great way to deal with any facial concern, from acne to dry skin to oily skin, so it’s no surprise that masks can also provide the skin with antioxidants, too. Different masks will provide your face with different vitamins to help fight the damage that is already there, and prevent more.

For example, an egg white mask is full of riboflavin, magnesium and protein. All three will help repair skin damage and make the skin glow. Mix one egg white with a teaspoon of lemon juice and half a teaspoon of honey. Put on the face and relax for about 15 minutes. Wash off and enjoy your bright skin!

Banana Mask:

Bananas contain potassium which will hydrate the skin and vitamin B which will help combat aging. They also contain vitamin E which fights sun damage and vitamin A which helps fade dark spots. Mash up one banana and mix with equal parts plain yogurt and orange juice. Mix and slather onto the face. Allow to sit for about 15 minutes. Rinse.

Fish Oil:

Taking fish oil daily is a great way to hydrate the skin from within. The fatty acids in fish oils help skin maintain their membranes (fighting that loss of firmness), too. You can get fish oil straight from the source, as well. Eat fatty fish like salmon a few times a week, or snack on almonds, walnuts and sunflower seeds.

Coconut Oil:

One of the newest ‘superfoods’, coconut oil is full of antioxidants and it’s a good fat. Use it as a moisturizer, a makeup remover or to cook with. It tastes delicious and can be used in place of butter and other oils in baked goods, or can be used to fry or saute foods. It also tastes great drizzled over popcorn!

  1. Coconut oil is something a lot of the Victoria’s Secret angels rave about! I use it myself and I look 5 to 10 years younger than people my own age. I was taking fish oil, the fermented kind, and found that it dried out my scalp so I had to stop taking it.
